How to Start Food Storage Easy Ways to Store Pasta- Pantry Organizing Ideas

hi it’s AlaskaGranny part of being
prepared is making sure you have extra food on hand that you actually enjoy
eating you know how to prepare it and your family will eat on of the
things that I like to buy is Pasta Roni because all you need is 1 and 3/4 cups
of water 1 tablespoon of olive oil and the packet
its versatile I can throw it in with any kind of meat I can serve it with
vegetables and everybody in my family is happy but I don’t like to store it in
these great big boxes because it takes so much room in the cabinet and the boxes
actually be attractive to rodents and I have all this stuff that could get wasted so what
I like to do is take something like either empty number 10 can with a lid or an empty
plastic like a Tupperware container and I repackage these into sandwich bags and I can
have a whole pile of sandwich bags rather than all of these boxes so let me show
you what you do you open the box you can see is practically empty you
take the bag you put all of the noodles into sandwich bag pour them all in even the sauce mix shake it all down into a nice pile take the sauce package nestle it around squeeze out the air and seal it up Now instead of this great big box you have this amount to store just or so I can easily load them
into my empty number 10 can or tupperware and I can have all of these
put away here with a lid and then they’re not taking up all the room it’s keeping them fresher
and it’s allowing me to store more food less amount of space label what it is and include the
direction and then I’ll go to store this on the shelf far more easily and safely
than this if you live in a climate where things
like pantry bugs are a problem put it in the freezer for a few days to kill off
any thing 16 packages of Pasta Roni in this one can
put on the label I just cut a piece of the box and taped it on when I take
the directions and insert it inside in case someone else needs to know how to make each
package I need one and three quarters cups of water 1 tablespoon of olive oil I
can add a can of tuna or chicken can of green beans and I have a whole meal so
for just over $20 I have probably sixteen complete meals right here for my
family it’s not hard to make sure that you’re going to have enough food to eat
you just need a little planning and preparation and remember choose foods your
family will actually eat we like this so it’s easy to do if I need to go camping I can
even grab this if I need to bug out I can grab it is well if there’s a snowstorm I
don’t have to worry about going out I have dinners in my closet so please set a few things
aside make sure that you will always have enough for you and your family no matter what comes along Please subscribe AlaskaGranny channel

  1. Do you label the individual bags in the cans/containers with the contents and date you put them in the larger container? Do you mix the types of pasta roni?

  2. Amazing idea! … Thank you so much! … I will use this tip right away …as I am quickly running out of storage space … This will help a great deal!

  3. You can get longer storage if you re-package in Mylar bags with oxygen absorbers. Keep in mind that plastic containers in themselves are oxygen permeable. To get long term storage, you will need to use a material that is not oxygen permeable (glass, metal, Mylar) and remove the oxygen from the container (vacuum processing or oxygen absorbers) before sealing. Plastic is a good moisture barrier but it is not an oxygen barrier.
